BJP fields ex-Congress minister, prominent Chakma leader for Mizoram elections

NEW DELHI/AIZAWL: BJP on Friday fielded former Congress minister and prominent Chakma leader B D Chakma from the prestigious Tuichawang assembly segment violating Mizo NGO's call not to nominate a non-Mizo for the seat.

The BJP central election committee met in Delhi on Thursday evening which was attended among others by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

In another Chakma Buddhist dominated West Tuipui constituency also, the saffron party decided to field a Chakma nominee Dr Kina Ranjan Chakma for November 28 polls.

This is second list of 24 candidates for Mizoram released on Friday. About a week back, the party had released first 13 candidates.

In the new list, there are four women candidates.

The list released by BJP leader and Union Minister J P Nadda among others named C Lalchunglura in Serchip to take on the Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla in a four-cornered contest.

Four women candidates of BJP will be C Lalnunziri in Aizawl North II, F Lalrensangi in Aizawl South III, Laldinngheti from Lengteng and Lalduhpuii in Tuichang.
