HYDERABAD: With just days left for the Telangana Assembly polls, the least a voter can expect of election officers in the State is getting voter slips distributed in time. However, the distribution of Photo Voter Slips (PVS) in Hyderabad district is far from complete. In fact, about 30 per cent of voters still have not received them.

The exercise of distributing PVS across 15 constituencies in the district by the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were supposed to have been completed by December 1. As of Sunday, 70 to 75 per cent voters slips have been distributed, whereas, about ten lakh voters continue to await theirs.

The distribution of voters slips, which began November 25, was supposed to be completed by Saturday. Officials said that it would take another two to three days time before all the voters receive their slips. Out of 40,57,488 -- the total number of voters in Hyderabad -- about 30 lakh have received their slips so far.
With respect to lapse in distribution, the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency tops the list with 48 per cent completion, followed by Nampally and Karwan constituencies with 67 per cent.

To facilitate the voters to know their place of enrolment and the serial number in the electoral roll, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had directed that the official voter slip, bearing the photo of the elector, be distributed at least five days before the day of elections by the District Election Officer.
The size, design and format of the PVS has been substantially improved to enhance its utility and effectiveness in voter identification, awareness and guidance.
