TRS cheated us, won't vote for it, says angry sugarcane farmers

JAGTIAL: Protesting against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government’s failure to reopen or take over Nizam Deccan Sugars Limited, the sugarcane farmers of Jagtial, Vemulawada and Nizamabad regions launched a campaign against the TRS with “TRS Hatao and Factory Bachao” (Remove TRS and save the factory) slogan.

The farmers have been touring different villages and distributing pamphlets, urging the people not to vote for TRS for ‘cheating’ them and for neglecting the factory, which is also known as Muthyampet Sugar Mill.

Sugarcane producers society president Mamidi Narayana Reddy, however, clarified that they are not requesting people to vote for other parties. He said: “Our only request is not to vote for TRS which has cheated the sugarcane farmers after promising to reopen and run the factory by taking over from the private management.”

Since the factory management announced the lay off in 2015, the sugarcane farmers future has been hanging in balance. They have been taking their produce to Kamareddy for crushing the crop and selling to private factory. Their grievance has now become the main issue in Jagtial, Vemulawada and Nizamabad as well as Korutla Assembly constituencies.
