Netas in temple run mode now...

SANGAREDDY: Politicians in Telangana can be quite superstitious. Normally it’s just the candidates that have a ‘sentiment’ temple, a lucky temple that they visit before filing nominations or before going to the polling station on election day. However, this time even their supporters have become suspicious. Acolytes of some senior politicians are performing pada yatras, jala deekshas and participating in other such religious ceremonies for their favourite temple.

On Tuesday, around 100 youngsters and supporters of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao from Erravelli village led a 3 KM long padayatra wishing that Rao be re-elected from Gajwel with a majority of not less than 1 lakh this time. Rao’s supporters walked from Komaravelli Mallanna temple to Konda Pochamma temple. According to Erravelli Village Development Committee president Balaraju some villagers have even performed poojas in Rao’s name, wishing for his success.

The TRS chief is not the only one with religious followers. TRS leader from Sangareddy Kasini Vikaykumar recently went all the way to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh to pray for TRS’ Sangareddy candidate Chinta Prabhakar. He performed a similar pooja at the famour Kethaki Sanghameshwara temple in Prabhakar’s name. Similarly, supporters of former Siddipet MLA Harish Rao prayed for Rao’s re-election from the constituency.

Even Congress leaders has ‘devotional’ supporters. Followers of senior party leader Jagga Reddy recently performed high-profile poojas at some temple in Sadasivapet, praying for Reddy’s win from Sangareddy.
