Amala Akkineni, on her comeback

'I thought people must’ve forgotten about me since I am coming back after a long 20 years. '

It’s been 20 years since actress Amala Akkineni put a pause to her filmy career and moved on to working towards the greater good of society. However, the beautiful actress is making a comeback through Sekhar Kammula’s 'Life is Beautiful'.

Explaining why she chose this film, Amala shares, “When Sekhar approached me for the role, my initial response was no. I was apprehensive about facing the camera after such a long gap. But, he was persistent, and after pondering over it, I decided to go ahead with the film.”

Amala plays the role of a single mother to two daughters in the film.

“The role was very inspiring and I could relate to it because I am a mother myself,” she says, adding, “Also, it was a short and sweet role, which did not take up a lot of time.”

How was the experience of acting in a film after a long time? “It was a very different experience because of the use of technology. Earlier we would have to wait for a month to see how the scene had come out and how we looked in it. But now, because of the technology, it is a lot easier. Plus, working with Sekhar was a great experience. He is very clear about what he wants, which is why he is able to drive the message to the actor as well. It was not like shooting, but was just about having a nice time,” she recalls.

So, does this mean that Amala is back to tinsel town for good?

“I don’t think so. I respect this profession a lot and understand the impact it has on people. But, I am happy with where I am. Perhaps, if another inspiring role comes by, which can be shot over a short period of seven days, I might consider it,” she smiles.

However, Amala is very touched by the response her fans have given to her comeback.

“I thought people must’ve forgotten about me since I am coming back after a long 20 years. But, everyone seems very excited about this film and I am touched by such a warm response,” shares the actress, who is not looking for a career in films anymore, but says that she has used her acting talent beyond films.

“As an actor, one learns how to present themselves and talk to people. So, that has helped me in conducting myself in other activities, which are for the greater good,” she says.

Currently very happy with her husband’s (Nagarjuna) latest release, 'Shirdi Sai', Amala says, “I was so touched after watching the film, and I am extremely proud of him.”

She further shares, “During this film, he (Nagarjuna) felt that he didn’t want to use any money that he makes from it and decided to use it all up for a good cause. We are using it for a hospital,” signs off Amala.

'Life is Beautiful' releases on September 14.
