Malayalam cine stars set to add colours to 'Mazhavil'

The show, where over 55 artistes will take part, will be held on Friday and Sunday at Dubai and Kochi, respectively.

The conference hall at Abad Plaza in Kochi shone in star power on Sunday as Malayalam actors and directors got together to rehearse for the stage show ‘Mazhavil Azhakil Amma’.

The members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) gave final  touches to the various programmes organised as part of the show scheduled on Friday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium and at Cochin Port Trust Stadium on Sunday.

“Around 55 of more than 450 members of AMMA will take part in the event. They have been rehearsing for the same from March 25,” said Edavela Babu,  secretary, AMMA.

The show will be an interesting potpourri of dance, skit and music. The theme revolves around a village where two prominent families, led by actors Mammootty and Mohanlal, compete to conduct the village festival. The highlight of this year’s show will be a glimpse into 100 years of Indian Cinema.

The four-hour long show is being directed by T K Rajeev Kumar. According to   Rajeev Kumar, the show will be a true tribute to the Indian Cinema, which is celebrating its centenary year.

“Though it will have the entertainment values needed for a successful stage show, ‘Mazhavil Azhakil Amma’ will also pay homage to the legends of Indian Cinema,” he added.

The title for the programme was given by veteran actor Nedumudi Venu and the funds raised from the show will be used to provide financial support to the ailing artistes of Malayalam cinema.

“The dates of all those involved in the show were blocked earlier so that it will not hinder any any of their shooting schedule. We are maintaining an  attendance register here to keep track of everyone,” quipped Babu.
