Alia-Bhatt

Actor who debuted in Student of the Year, is playing a Tamilian for her next movie 2 States. The movie, which is an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book of the same name, has the young actor playing the role of Ananya, the heroine of the book. City Express catches up with Bhatt, who was in the city to shoot the movie.

What can you tell us about your role in 2 States?

I can’t speak about the movie much, but I play the role of a modern Tamil girl with several layers to her character.

How has shooting in Chennai been so far? Have you done any sightseeing?

It has been fantastic. I’ve been to Chennai before but I haven’t had any chance to go around the city, which is quite sad. But we are going to Pondicherry to shoot in the French quarters for the next couple of days, so I’m looking forward to that.

Have you watched any Tamil movies?

I’ve watched Robot (Endhiran) and Makkhi (Naan E). I think Rajinikanth is adorable. He is the real superstar!

Your other movie, Highway, has been intense. How was the experience?

It is a completely different storyline. My character’s name is Veera, a young Delhi girl and she is on a journey that  is physically and mentally very challenging. But the journey takes her forward, she grows emotionally.

This is just your third movie. What have you learnt as an actor?

I did not know the A of acting. I used to go to sets just to eat the food. But once I joined ‘Student of the Year’, I realised there is so much to it. A scene can go up to three hours and there is something called short division and continuity and so on. I also realised doing a happy scene is so much more difficult than a ad scene. Doing those magical moments and happy scenes are so tough.
