Favorite memory

Me and my friend were in Tokyo and we got a little lost at a railway station, not knowing which platform to go to for our destination. This old lady came to us, sensing that we were lost but she couldn’t speak English, so we showed her the route map. She understood where we needed to go but since sign language wasn’t helping, the lady held us by our hands and walked us all the way to the right platform, missing her train. We were, of course speechless with the gesture and didn’t know how to thank her. She just gave us the warmest smile, patted us and left. This one memory, from one of the most fascinating places in the world, has left a lasting impression on me.

One thing you always take with you

My Ipod without fail.

Camping or staying in hotels

I prefer staying in hotels or sometimes with friends. Not much of a camping person but I might try it sometime in the future.

Worst experience

It was on my first trip to the US. We were about 15 in a group in New York for a fashion show and we were so excited that we dropped our bags in the hotel and left to explore the city. I had a little backpack which I was carrying and suddenly as I entered a store I realized my bag wasn’t on my back. Till date I have no recollection of when and how I lost my bag. I started screaming because I suddenly felt so alone in a foreign land, although I thank my lucky stars that I had my colleagues around to comfort me. I completely panicked when I realized that it was not just my wallet and favourite pair of glasses but also my passport, which was gone, with a 10 year visa stamped, definitely qualifies for the worst experience ever.

Favorite drive

I have enjoyed the drive through Nappa valley in the US and the one from Orlando to Miami. The drive from Bangalore to Coorg is another of my favorites and of course my night drives to Bandra band stand or to Worli sea face through sea link in Mumbai .

Dream trip

Yes I do actually–several of them. A trip through South of France, Spain and Portugal via euro rail all over. I’m also dreaming of a cooking holiday trip to Tuscany and I’d love to visit Morocco, Cambodia and the Philippines. Well, these are just a few, there are many more on my list.

Favorite places

Crete, Mykonos and Santorini in Greece, Paris in France, New York and Miami in the US, London and Bath in the UK, Rome in Italy, Tokyo in Japan, Lucerne, Basil and Zurich in Switzerland, Bali in Indonesia.

A five-star hotel or adventure traveler

I am a lazy traveller, so I do like my stay to be very comfortable. I am not the ‘rough it out’ kind. So, to answer your question I am more of a five-star hotel traveler.

Like to do most

When I’m travelling I’m a different person. I’m not the lazy bones that I normally am back home. I have my itinerary absolutely ready and planned out. I am a complete tourist once I reach my destination. I want to go to every famous spot, place, monument and museums but I don’t ever pack in too much in a day, so I like to keep more time in hand. I keep two- three things to do in a day and then head for a nice evening out, either dinner or a movie or a local play. If I feel it’s getting too hectic then I just take a break or extend my stay for a day or two to just laze out in my hotel and go for a spa.

Essential things

Walking shoes, music, a few evening outfits and shoes, easy daywear, sunglasses, essential medical kit, travel documents, basic toiletries and credit card.

Travel alone or in groups

I’m not very comfortable in a very large group. I have been on holidays with a maximum of five people, although as a model I have travelled in very large groups such as 20 -30. Although it’s fun once in a while, I prefer trips where it’s just me and my husband or just a few of my friends. I have taken just one really long trip for a month and one short trip for a week all by myself and I must say it was extremely delightful.

To this day I’m glad that I went on those trips.

I think taking a trip like that once in a while is essential.
