It's All Good

Awards and accolades aren’t new to Rehane. Starting off from the ‘Best Designer’ title at the Femina Miss India in 1996 that kickstarted her designing career, to becoming a regular at Wills Lifestyle India and Lakme Fashion Weeks, she’s done it all.
One would think she’d be used to it by now. But the 44-year-old designer still gets excited at the thought of adding another feather to her cap — this time it’s the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO)’s award for being an ‘Outstanding Achiever’, for the organisation’s 30th anniversary. Add to that, Re’s just brought in Amy Jackson to be her showstopper for the Bangalore Fashion Week, which also sees her presenting a line of men’s clothes for the first time in her career. “It’s all good,” she says. The line seems to be her mantra for all the madness.
“I started off 2014 by getting this award, so yes, it’s all good,” she repeats, laughing. “I just go with the flow, you know. I’d love to say I’m super ambitious or that I’m super organised, but frankly, I’m just not,” she admits candidly.
The Bangalore Fashion Week will see her showcase her Spring Summer 2014 collection titled ‘Easy Girl. Think Goa’ with laidback kaftan dresses, shorts and high-waisted pants in saffrons, reds and indigos. The men’s collection too is similarly laidback. “Lots of checked shorts, suits and jackets without sleeves, that sort of thing,” she paints us a picture. “I’d love to get into men’s clothes, but I just don’t have time! I don’t even have enough time to dress all the women I’m currently working with!” the designer gives us a glimpse of her crazy life. So instead of going in over her head, she tells us she is taking it slow with the menswear. “For now, I’m presenting six men’s ensembles just for the show,” she tells us.
As for her showstopper Amy Jackson, the designer can’t stop gushing. “She’s one of the most perfect-looking women I’ve seen in my life!” But here’s question. What will Amy be wearing on the ramp? Rehane pauses for a moment before she hints,“Something white, with a lot of multicoloured mirror-work. I’m not saying anything more...”
