NEW YORK: Johnny Depp allegedly flew into a drunken jealous rage at the thought of his wife Amber Heard cheating on him, smashing bottles and windows and cutting the tip off his finger - which he then used to scrawl on the walls in blood and paint.

The accident delayed filming of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean instalment for two weeks, as Depp flew to the US for surgery. The production team on Australia's Gold Coast said the injury as an on-set accident.

The claims were filed by Heard during a hearing in her acrimonious divorce from the actor. Heard filed for divorce from the 53-year-old star on May 23, and took out a restraining order. Both sides say they want to resolve the matter in private, yet a stream of damaging leaks have emerged from the case.

TMZ reported last night (Monday night) that a settlement worth about $8 million (pounds 6.2 million) was close, but Heard was insisting on a statement in which Depp admitted abusing her. He is reportedly refusing because he argues he never committed domestic violence.
