The power of women!

Chitrangada Singh is one of the most admired Bollywood celebrities today. The actress was in Bangalore to launch the second edition of an online fashion store. Speaking about her assosiation with the new porta l, she said, “I am always happy to be associated with a fashion brand that has credibility and is a trendsetter for the youth.”

Audiences have been craving to see more of the actress especially after her appearance in Joker. But for Chitrangada, she wants to be more than an item girl.  “Besides being seen on screen as many times as possible, I would love to be a part of films that would help me become a stronger actor as it will only benefit my career. However, a lot of times, the script will be great but it is not necessary that you will have a substantial role in the film," she explained.

The actress also opined that women are far more evolved than men right now. "I always believed that if you want to educate a family, you have to educate the woman first because she is far more adaptable. For me, a modern Indian woman today is somebody who is extremely independent and understands feminism. With independence comes freedom of expression and financially security. That's how I am enjoying my life right now," she said.

She feels that Bollywood is going through several changes now.

"The dynamics are changing for which the audiences have to be given a lot of credit. People are willing to watch women-centric films like The Dirty Picture and English Vinglish which is a good sign." Growing with age and experience, heroines tend to essay different roles. Her next project Inkaar which will be directed by Sudhir Mishra talks about women and power struggle.

“Inkaar also stars Arjun Rampal and has a backdrop of advertising world and the power of men and women. And, of course, there will be power struggle when women are educated and strong enough to challenge men. That's basically what the film is all about," she explained. Though Joker tanked at the box office, her first ever sizzling item song in the film was well noticed. The actress who is compared to Smitha Patil reveals the reason behind being a part of the masala act. “Item is a Mumbai word. If the girl is good looking, they say 'yeh badi item lag rahi hai'. The fact is that such songs gives a boost to the film. I don't think you can ever take away song and dance from Hindi films. It has remained the most important part of our industry," she signed off.
