Akshay Kumar to act in Dara Singh biopic

After Farhan Akhtar as ace athlete Milkha Singh and Priyanka Chopra as Olympic medal winning boxer Mary Kom, Bollywood’s action star Akshay Kumar could be the next to jump on the sports-biopic bandwagon. Akshay Kumar has been approached to play legendary Indian boxer Dara Singh on screen.

Dara Singh’s son Vindoo says he has been approached by director Rohit Jugraj for the project.

“Yes, Rohit Jugraj has approached me to make a film on my father’s life. Akshay Kumar is the one chosen to play my father in this project. However, Akshay would need time to bulk up,” he said.

Vindoo, who had been in news after being accused in the Indian Premier League (IPL)  spot-fixing scam and was in jail for 13 days, added, “All these things happened and I didn’t want to embarrass Akshay by connecting with  him on this at a time when the media was hounding me.” But now the project will take off. Interestingly, there is another Dara Singh biopic in the pipeline, being shot in Punjabi.

“Yes I’ve been approached by the producers of Jatt & Juliet with a Punjabi film where they want Sangram  Singh to play my dad. Let’s see which one materialises first,” said Vindoo.
