Being Anushka Sharma

In just under five years, this model-turned-actor has built an impressive resume that boasts of some of the biggest actors and directors in the industry. All of 25 and already considered a leading talent in Bollywood, she makes for a refreshingly candid celebrity

After her Yash Chopra outing in Jab Tak Hai last year and her quirky role in Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola early this year, the actress is now set to try her hands as a producer for her film, NH10. Anushka, who will also play the lead role in the film, is co-producing it with production house Phantom.

“I’m thrilled to get a chance to do this so early on in my career. And I couldn’t have found a better project than NH10 to kick-start this new phase in my film journey,” she says.

Having portrayed strong and realistic characters like Shruti Kakkar in Band Baaja Baaraat and Akira Rai in Jab Tak Hain Jaan, she says of her acting, “For me it’s very important that I give my all to the character I am playing, the essence of loving what you do and putting your heart and soul into it.” Her smart choice of roles has helped her establish herself as an actor. “For me the most exciting part about being an actor is ‘acting’. I’m not saying that I don’t enjoy everything else that comes with it but what gives me a real high is getting to play challenging characters and being able to pull it off.”

Anushka Sharma sprung onto the big screen quite out of the blue when she made her debut in 2008 with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and later went on to do films like Badmaash Company, Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl and Patiala House, besides Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola and Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Her future projects include Peekay and Bombay Velvet.

For the actress, this will be the first time that she will be teaming up with Aamir in Rajkumar Hirani’s Peekay, and says she is lucky to work with great directors so early in her career.

Talking about a degree of meticulousness, she says, “I don’t have any preconceived notions in my head and I guess it’s also because I don’t do too many films. And since I don’t show up in every other movie, it’s easier to make me look believable.”

For now it’s work all the way for the youngster. Keeping her busy right now is Anurag Kashyap’s period drama Bombay Velvet opposite Ranbir Kapoor where she plays a ‘60s jazz singer beside Peekay.

“I would love to play different roles with brilliant directors,” she chimes, much like any actress worth her salt.

Besides acting, the 25 year-old is also obsessed with moisturisers, which perfectly explains her being chosen as the face of Nivea Whitening Cell Repair Lotion. “In my house there is a moisturiser everywhere,” she says sheepishly.

Also known for her killer physique, Anushka’s fitness regime includes intense weight training for an hour a day, five days a week.

“Just as you can’t blindly follow fashion, you can’t follow fitness either. Don’t stress yourself out thinking, ‘I have to lose weight’, or look like Deepika or Priyanka or Anushka. Be yourself in whatever you do,” she concludes with her two cents worth.
