After month long furlough Sanjay Dutt returns to prison

Actor Sanjay Dutt returned to prison on Wednesday after four weeks of furlough. Sanjay went back to Yerwada prison at Pune where he is serving the remainder of his five year prison term in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blast case. He was convicted of possession of illegal firearms including AK-56 assault rifle that were delivered to him by the conspirators of the bomb blasts.
Sanjay had been initially granted two week furlough on October 1, which was further extended by two more week on his request on medical grounds. He sought the extension for the treatment of his clot in his leg.
The manner in which Sanjay easily got furlough and subsequent extension has not gone down with activists and fellow convicts in the bomb blasts who are yet to get any response from the authorities on their application for furlough, parole on medical grounds. Sanjay is the son of actor couple Sunil and Nargis Dutt. His father Sunil Dutt was an MP from Mumbai. Though his parents are no more, his sister Priya Dutt is a Congress MP from Mumbai and activists such advocate Abha Singh believe that it was only due the political links that Sanjay has been getting preferential treatment.
