S SS Rajamouli has confirmed that it's his dream to direct Mahabharata on a scale never attempted before. The media reports are rife that after Baahubali 2, the director will start working on Mahabharata which is currently planned as a trilogy spanning four to five years.

In the past, Aamir Khan revealed that acting in Mahabharata is his dream and he would love to essay the character of Krishna in the epic saga. Shah Rukh Khan has also expressed his desire to not just act in Mahabharata but also associate his VFX Company to produce a world class product. King Khan had expressed a wish that he would love to be cast as Karna in the film.

Given the wish to play different characters in the same film, this is an indication for SS Rajamouli to cast the two superstars and plan to project it as the biggest film to be made in India.

In the past, Shah Rukh and Aamir were to work together in Josh (2000) and London Dreams (2009) however things did not eventually materialise.

In Josh, Aamir Khan was offered the character of Rahul, but he was keen to play the flamboyant character of Max. Owing to creative difference with the director, Mansoor Khan, Aamir had opted out of the film.

As far as London Dreams is concerned, the film was initially supposed to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and the director had arranged for a joint narration for the two superstars. However, professional differences acted as a barrier and the film was eventually made with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. The film was originally titled Rashque (jealousy in Urdu) and Shah Rukh Khan was to essay the character of Mannu done by Salman.
