'Juice', a short film by ‘Masaan’ Director’ Neeraj Ghaywan shows a mirror into deeprooted misogyny, prevailing in Indian society. The 12-minute short film, scripted by Neeraj Ghaywan and Ranjan Chandel, features Shefali Shah and Manish Chowdhary.
The movie, set in a typical Indian middle-class family unfurls with a scene where men are shown enjoying alcohol with bits of gossips.The women are depicted as 'lesser human beings', who are meant solely for doing household chores.The director has taken care to draw out the minute subtexts, which helps the viewer to build on the narrative.Some of the scenes in the short film exposes the double standards of the society.The girl child cast in the movie is advised not to go to the living room while men are talking.At the same time, she is asked to "serve food to the men".

'Juice' exposes subtle elements of misogyny from the men's sexist comments on women ranging from their female supervisor to Hillary Clinton.The movie ends at a point where the character played by Shefali Shah dares to pull a chair and sit in the 'gendered living room'.Her entry brings a deafening silence in the room as it points fingers at the unfair treatment of women by the male folk.
Neeraj Ghaywan directed the National award-winning film, 'Masaan', which won the prestigious critics' prize at the 68th Cannes Film Festival.
