NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea against Anubhav Sinha’s Article 15, asking the petitioners to approach the right authority.

The Brahmin Samaj of India (BSOI) had appealed to the apex court to cancel the film’s censor certification. The Brahmin group had alleged that using the title Article 15 without prior permission was illegal and could damage public perception about the constitution of India.

It had also accused the film of spreading caste hatred and depicting facts inaccurately.

Welcoming the Supreme Court ’s decision, Anubhav Sinha said, “Today the apex court of this country once again reinforced law of the land by dismissing an unfounded case. The Supreme Court disallowed the plea of the petitioner to cancel or question the certificate issued to the film by the Central Board of Film Certification.”

Article 15 stars Ayushmann Khurrana as an IPS officer investigating the rape and murder of two teenage Dalit girls in Lalgaon, Uttar Pradesh.

The film also stars Isha Talwar, Manoj Pahwa, Sayani Gupta, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kumud Mishra and others.

Article 15 is inspired by the 2014 Badaun gangrape and murder case.

Released on June 28, the film has earned Rs 40.86 crore at the box-office so far.
