Niveditha touched by Lambani plight

The ‘Parie’ heroine says she was so moved by the miserable conditions of the Lambani folks that she wanted to help them

‘Parie’ has taken nearly one-and-a-half years to complete. Actress, Niveditha donning a role of a Lambani in this film, is quite excited and anxiously looking forward for its release. “‘Parie’ required that much time to complete and I am extremely happy with the outcome. Our film was supposed to release on May 4. Since, big stars have now decided to postpone their movies, ‘Parie’ will be the only film releasing this week,” she said.

‘Parie’ directed by Sudhir Athavar is based on a novel, Bharadwaj by Samppanna Mutalik. Projecting the role of a Lambani, ‘Parie’ highlights issues on intercaste marriage, which is not really followed in the cosmopolitan world. The actress added, “Time and age don’t matter for a good film. Mahabharatha is well read, watched and accepted by the audience even today. A story well presented is always appreciated. For that matter, liquor mafia and intercaste marriage, are things that still happen in today’s world. However, it is not really being spoken about.”

Throwing light on her role of a Lambani, Niveditha said, “The traditional costume of a Lambani is very difficult to carry off throughout the day. My entire head was covered with their jewellery which was quite heavy.”

The actress further told us, “Initially, I had this fear in myself about the character as I felt there might be objections from various communities. At the same time, I also thought this particular character and the role is necessary to justify the film.”

The actress who was a part of ‘Parie’ wishes to do something for the Lambani group who reside in harsh conditions. “I was shooting at this place called Shivapura Thanda in Davangere, where Lambanis have settled. They literally are making a living on streets with no proper electricity. At night, the whole place is surrounded by millions of mosquitoes. I really wish I could help them with proper infrastructure with the support of other people. In spite of all these difficulties, they are such happy go lucky people. Hats off to them,” she said.

Talking about her costar Raakesh who plays the Brahmin boy, the actress says, “Raakesh is extremely down to earth and very talented, bindaas and hardworking. I have never seen him coming with an assistant. I really wish all his dreams come true.”

Niveditha is also part of two other films, ‘Khiladi Kitty’ opposite Kitty and ‘Nimbehulli’ opposite Hemanth Hegde, a comedy film, which she’s attempted to do. “I can pass off as a village belle as well as a city girl’s character very easily. Though I live in the city, my roots are from the village where I was born. Adaptation is very easy for me,” said Niveditha, who’s known for her versatility. “From ‘Avva’, to the films I have taken till now, I’ve attempted to do different kinds of roles. But, I’m still not satisfied. I need characters that will prove my acting skills,” said Niveditha, who prioritizes directors over stars.

“It doesn’t matter, if I am not a part of the super hero projects. For me, director comes first. They are my stars. As for co-actors, it is all about acting and reacting. If the hero is good, performance will be much better. Everything is in the directors’ hands,” she says.

Simultaneously, Niveditha is also working on her Kollywood project. “Right now my Tamil film is in the discussion stages. I’ll be soon heading to Chennai to finalise on the same,” she signs off.
