Ganesh’s Kushi Kushiyagi and Upendra’s Shivam will release together on January 1, 2015. With the release of Duniya Vijay’s Jackson postponed to January 15, it is left to the two superstars to vie for the top honours at the box office. Confirming the news, director Sanat Kumar D said, “Jackson has been cleared with a U/A certificate. However, we need some time for promotions before the release. Also there is a lot of competition among Kannada films around the new year. Around 450 theatres across Karnataka will be monopolised by the screenings of Kushi... and Shivam and a few other films and we will be left with virtually nothing. Secondly Yash’s Mr and Mrs Ramachari has already taken away many theatres and it will run for more than two weeks at least. So we decided to postpone our film by a week.”

There are around a dozen films slated to release in January 2015. While theatres are making way for Yogaraj Bhat’s Vaastu Prakara, Pooja Gandhi’s Abhinetri, AP Arjun’s Raate, there are films like Cigarette, Paipoti, Namakharam are in queue.
