Film editor B Sanath Kumar is turning director with Jackson, which was launched on Duniya Vijay’s birthday January 20 as he stars in it. The Kannada film is a remake of the Tamil hit Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara that had Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. Explaining the reasons for choosing Jackson as the title, Sanath says, “Vijay’s films like Junglee, Johnny Mera Naam, Jayammana Maga were all hits so we stuck with the letter ‘J’. Also, Vijay had already registered the title.”
The actor, who is known for his action films, will be seen taking on comic acts in Jackson. “If I had the option, I would have named the film Junglee Part II as it is an out-and-out comedy film with barely five per cent of the kind of action you see Vijay doing in his other films. I worked with Vijay on a couple of films which is why I am confident that he can be comfortable with any genre,” he says.
As an editor, Sanath has worked on Govindaya Namaha, Drama, Jayamanna Maga and Lucia. “Yograj Bhat is my guru, I have learnt it all from him,” says Sanath, adding, “I knowingly took up comedy. I want to give the beautiful message of Kudibedi, Kududru drive maadabedi (don’t drink, and don’t drive when you drink). We plan to go on the floors from February 3 with a 42-day schedule.”
