Godhi Banna...Ditches Label Takes Music Online

Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu is expected to be released in April.

While today’s filmmakers are finding innovative ways to launch their film’s audio tracks, the makers of Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu have quietly released their film’s album on the digital media platform six days ago.

While branding helps sell a film’s songs, they decided not to tie up with any company and instead used social media to talk about their music. Hemanth Rao, the director of Godhi Banna..., who released the 10 songs of the album scored by Charan Raj, is glad that the new way of releasing the audio has clicked in the market. “It is the next level and will open up avenues for a lot of new filmmakers, who want to reach their audio to the audience without tying up with any big company,” says Hemanth, who adds, “You don’t need have to a celebration. All that matters is to make it known that the music is available for everybody. Not going the old school way, we are playing at it intelligently and feel that this is another way to release our film’s music.”

The makers have their music on digital platforms such as Hungama, iTunes and Wynk Music on a revenue-sharing basis. “Firstly, it helps to know the nature of the music before deciding on the promotional platforms. This medium also helps us know how many of our songs are engaging and what kind of people are listening to our album,” he says.

Interestingly, there is a feature on their website through which listeners can contribute towards good music. “We have people who are adding value to our film’s music,” says Hemanth. “Since, we are working on a revenue-sharing model, we will not be able to make money spent on the film’s music. In order to generate some revenue, we have uploaded the songs on our own webiste www.gbsmthefilm.com//audio. Those who have been listening to the songs and liked them have contributed in small and big amounts -- Rs  10 to Rs  10,000. This will go towards the promotion of the film,” he says.

Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu is expected to be released in April. It stars Rakshit Shetty and Shruti Hariharan, along with Anant Nag who plays a key role in the film.
