Romancing the past in namma nadu

A song sequence in Chakravarthy has been   shot entirely in the Western Ghats, moving away from the popular trend of going abroad

It would seem that the makers of Chakravarthy have gone by Modi’s ‘Make in India’ mantra, deciding to reject Darshan’s conventional overseas location Switzerland and instead opting to ‘Shoot in India’. The film which marks the directorial debut of Chintan with Darshan and Deepa Sannidhi in the lead will see the actors in a romantic sequence with a retroeffect amid the picturesque locations of Western Ghats.

According to Chintan, the local flavour was required and multiple locations were chosen.
“The song was shot over five days, starting from Athihole in Madikeri and travelling to Kalaguru tea estate, and at Haringi backwaters. We also had the opportunity to shoot in an exclusive location at Gaaliguda near Horanadu, which has not been explored before. The song travels to the beautiful locations in Kodagu and among other places,” he says.

Kalai master, who has choreographed the song, tells us that the team had travelled to a lot of places down South and even did a recce at Manali, but could not that find a green frame because everything had dried up. “The Western Ghats was the best we found,” he says.
Chintan adds that there is a lot of meaning and freshness in the particular track which adds life with its lyrics.
“The song talks about the relationship and bonding of a couple, which we thought could only be said with green landscapes. So we decided to capture the beauty of Karnataka, especially keeping the film’s retro theme in mind. Though it was not the right season, Nature blessed us,” he says.
The first-time director informs us that the romantic song was shot during sunrise and sunset.

“Darshan and team would wake up at 3.30 am and get ready by 5 am for the song. We did the song in the early hours and used to take a break at 9 am. The song sequence continued again around 4 pm to 6 pm during sunset hours,” he says.

With Darshan completing his portions, Chintan is now doing the post-production work of the film and will start to shoot a few major portions with Dinakar Thoogudeepa and Aditya from December 1.
Meanwhile, the makers are getting ready for a mega audio launch, which might probably be in mid-December. The film produced by Annaji Nagaraj and Siddanth features an ensemble cast with Srujan Lokesh playing an important role. The film’s cinematography is by K S Chandrashekar.
