Karnataka allocates 110 acres in Mysuru for Kannada Film City

BENGALURU: The long-pending wish of the Kannada film industry to have a world class Film City in Karnataka received a big push on Wednesday with the state cabinet today approving a proposal to grant 110 acres of land near Nanjangud in Mysuru district.

The cabinet also granted five years time for the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy[KCA] to pay for the land. The land is to be given on a 30-year lease to KCA,w hich will implement the project with private sector participation, law minister T B Jayachandra said.

The Film city project was first proposed way back in 1978 and received support during the Ramakrishna Hegde regime and was allocated 365 acres of land near Hesaraghatta in Bengaluru. However, the project failed make progress until the present Siddaramaiah government gave it a push.

In other decisions taken by the Karnataka cabinet, a Banavasi Development Authority will be set for designing and implementing plans for the development of Banavasi in Uttara Kannada district.

Four more bungalows will be built for High Court judges in the Nyaya Grama layout near Hebbal in Bengaluru. They will cost Rs 2-2.50 crore each.

The Cabinet also gave the nod for appointment of G H Puttahalagaiah, a retired Karnataka Administrative Services officer as the chief executive officer of the Roerich and Devika 
Rani Roerich Estate Board.
