BENGALURU: Kannada film actor Sudeep on Wednesday announced that he will sell one of his expensive cars to fund Bengaluru-based ‘We Respect Farmer’s Trust’, an organisation that works for farmers.

Sudeep, while launching the logo for the trust on Wednesday, said he has been working in the Kannada film industry for the past many years, and though “I have not earned much, I own four expensive cars. I will sell one of them and give the money to the trust.” The car he has decided to sell belongs to BMW X6 series.

He, however, added that just by launching the logo of the trust or felicitating farmers, their problems will not be solved. “Tell me how will this make an impact or solve their problems?” he asked the event organisers. “I launched the logo, but do not have answers to their problems. Just by felicitating them on a big stage like this will not solve their problems. Only a farmer knows his problems,” he said.

“We cannot bring rain. Only one farmer can know the problems of another. But I know their value and therefore I am making my little contribution,” he said.

Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde urged the farmers who take loans not to spend on unnecessary things. “When you take loans, use it for agricultural purposes and not for weddings. There are rich and powerful people who conduct weddings lavishly; do not follow them,” he said.

He added that the society is forgetting farmers. “Farmers are not getting their due respect. They deserve a better place,’’ he added.
