In the world of art, there are instances when being different pays off in the long run. Upendra is one who has always enjoyed the ‘trouble’ of not thinking like every other commercial director. Today he has created a niche for himself.
Uppi has his cinematic adventure, even while indulging in every creative whim, and keeps the audience hooked to the narrative. Remember one of his cult movies, the psychological thriller and romance A? Written and directed by the star, this movie saw a great opening week with collections running into tens of crores.
So, when it comes to his 50th film, the industry is abuzz that he is going to churn up something incredible. Sandalwood hopes to be amazed.
Going by our sources, Uppi might direct his 50th and he has already started working on the script 15 to 20 days ago. “Upendra’s is open to all kinds of stories and his liking for a script cannot be squeezed into a particular kind of cinema. He is an out-of-the-box director and the buzz around his next movie is fully justified,” says the source.
He will take a call on directing it once he decides on the script and only when he believes it can be his 50th. We just have to wait and watch.
Known to be choosy about his films, he may have also opted out of Dr Modi by Uday Prakash and Kanneshwara by Naganna, and we hear the projects have been dropped altogether. He has films lined up with Manju Mandavya and Shashank, for which the script is currently being worked on and there will be a few rounds of discussions.
At present, post-production work of Uppi Matte Hutti Baa - Inti Prema is on and it could be his next release. And going by the sources, the other projects which might take off could be a film with directors K Madesh and Gurudutt.
The two are awaiting a green signal for the script, to take it to the floors.
