I am excited to play ugly: Shubra Aaiyappa

I am so glad that I have been given such a character to play in John Cena.

Shubra Aaiyappa, a model turned actress, who debuted in Kannada with Shivarajkumar starrer Vajrakaya springs another surprise on us. She will play the female lead in Suni’s next, John Cena and is paired opposite Vidyuth Chandra, who will be making his Sandalwood debut with this film.

Shubra, who captured many hearts with the song ‘No Problem’, will be doing something hatke in her next outing. City Express saw a few photographs from the film and we see Shubra in three shades darker wearing thick glasses and with bucktooth. The actress shares with us the joy of bagging this role.

“People usually look at me and go ‘Oh wow’ or she is a model and looks good... , which works to my advantage sometimes.  But you also want people to recognise you as a performer.

I am so glad that I have been given such a character to play in John Cena. It is role totally different from the one I had in Vajrakaya. People who leave the theatre will judge me for my acting and I am waiting to see their reaction.”

Shubra is excited that she looks so ugly in the role. “I have walked the ramp and done roles for which I am all dolled up, but for how long can I do that,” says Shubra. “I had heard the script over the phone but I got an overall picture when I went to meet Suni and sign the contract.

And when I had that one on one conversation,  I realised that this is going to be fun. After the look test, I remember laughing my heart out and saying to the mirror, ‘Where am I, who is she’. I even took a video of the making, which I keep watching it repeatedly... I can’t wait to see myself magnified on the big screen, looking like that,” she adds.

The actress says that this role of an awkward girl has only given her scope to perform. “It will be good to be measured by my talent,” she says.

The film is being shot as of now and Suni will complete it in the next 10 days.
