Pooja Devariya’s Kathe in Sandalwood begins

Kathe Ondu Shuruvagide, which marks the directorial debut of Senna Hegde, features newcomer Pooja Devariya as the female lead. The actress, who is a well-known face in Tamil and who has bagged awards for her performance in Iravi and Kutrame Thandani, will be part of her first Sandalwood movie.

The actress, currently in Bengaluru, is familiarising herself with the working of Kannada industry because she starts shooting from this week. “A good story, content, genre and the team are what I look out for,” she says. “Since this is my first Kannada film, I can already sense the difference in the working style compared to that in Chennai. As a newcomer, I am excited about experimenting with different projects and that is what has brought me here.”

Pooja happily shares that she has the knack of picking up langauges, and this is the second language she is attempting to learn after Tamil. She is willing to make every effort because “every heroine wants to a film like this, which has all the essential elements that actresses dream off”.

The actress tells us an interesting story about how Rakshit spotted her for this film. She says, “I had liked his professionalism and connected with him through social media. I messaged him on Twitter saying that if anything good comes up, I would like to be part of it. So, when the team was looking for a heroine, he thought of me and brought me on board. It was nice of him to do that”.

Pooja has been a theatre artiste for long and cringes when she hears people say that movies are the next step. “It upsets me when people look at theatre as a stepping stone into films. They are completely different media,” she says. “I have done theatre for 11 long years and know that there is much different between the stage and the silverscreen.”

This film, made as a joint venture between Paramvah Studioes and Puskhar Films, has her paired opposite Diganth. She says, “I am in the process of getting to know Diganth, just as I am learning the ropes of this industry.”
