Rakul Preet Singh is the actress most in demand in south Indian film industry, especially in Tollywood. But, let’s not forget that she started her film career in Sandalwood; her debut was Gilli,  starring Jaggesh’s son Gururaj.

Rakul, who was in Bengaluru along with Mahesh Babu to promote her latest film SPYder, shared with us memories of her first stint in cinema, when she was just 18. “Gilli was my first film and it was offered to me when I was in school, and during my modelling days,” she says.

“To be honest, I did not know anything about south Indian film industry or its popularity. I was told by the makers that they were remaking a Telugu hit, 7G Rainbow Colony, in Kannada and I initially turned it down”. She adds that she accepted it later hoping that it would earn her pocket money.

“They managed to convince my father and I signed the project thinking I could earn in lakhs. Then my pocket money was ` 2,000 and I thought what I was paid from this movie could buy me a car, and I could show off to my friends”.

Rakul, who started on this career accidentally, fell in love with movies during shooting. “I realised this is my destiny and that I belong here,” she says.
