Having spent a little more than 10 years in the cinema industry, Shubha Poonja is still craving better films to mark her career. In fact, the actor was assertive in her statement, when she said,  ‘I am not done yet. Nobody can tell me that I am ruled out. I will choose when to be ruled out. As long as I have the strength in me, as long as I have the support of the audience, I will continue to entertain.’

Speaking to City Express, Shubha, who is awaiting the release of her upcoming film, Kelavu Dinagala Nanthara, says, “There were times when the career span of heroine’s in films was only limited to 10 years. But now the industry has changed. Today, heroines with experience are getting edged-roles and doing well in the industry,” she says.

The actor feels that she is in that stage of her career where she wants to take up different kinds of work. While she can’t fit into a particular genre, she wishes to be part of films which are women-centric. “There is a section of the audience, who would still love to see me as the girl in Moggina Manasu. But I am done with those bubbly girl roles,” says Shubha, who points out that though dime a dozen commercial films are coming her way, she wants to take up only mature films with good content. “A lot of people have come to me saying that they want to see me only in glamorous roles, some suggest that I take up heroine-oriented subjects. But my focus at this point is different, and I am working towards seeing myself in a different avatar on screen, in terms of characters,” she says.

About her upcoming release, Kelavu Dinagala Nanthara, which is directed by Sri Ni, Shubha says, “It is a horror film interspersed with comic elements. Moreover, the film has a message to convey to the youth. All I can say is that this is a film for all those who live their lives on social media. The director has chosen both the genre and format (commercial) carefully to ensure that an effective message is spread. We’re hoping that this film will change peoples’ perspective towards social media,” she says.
