Kavya Madhavan, 'Gaddama' steal limelight

The film, a real life story of a Malayalee domestic help in the Gulf has swept the Atlas-Film Critics 2010 awards.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kavya Madhavan bagged the best actress award of the Atlas-Film Critics 2010 for her performance in ‘Gaddama’, a movie based on the real life story of a Malayalee domestic help in the Gulf.

The film clinched many more titles, including the best director award for Kamal and the best movie of the year, Atlas Group Chairman M M Ramachandran said while announcing the awards at a press meet here on Saturday. Mammootty was selected the best actor for his title role in ‘Pranchiyettan and The Saint’.

The roles in ‘Marykkundoru Kunjadu’ and ‘Agathan’ made Biju Menon the second best actor while Samvritha Sunil bagged the award for the second best female actor for her performances in ‘Gramam’, ‘Happy Husbands’ and ‘Punyam Aham’.

Alexander, who played the title role in ‘T D Dasan Std VI B’, was adjudged the best child actor.

Mohan Raghavan got the award for the best story for the same movie, while Ranjith bagged the best script writer award for ‘Pranchiyettan’.

Kaithaparam Damodaran Nampoothiri bagged the best lyricist award for penning the songs for ‘Holidays’ and ‘Neelambari’ and M Jayachandran’s scores for ‘Karayilekku Oru Kadal Dooram ...’ made him the best music director.

Shankar Mahadevan is best male singer (Holidays) and Shreya Ghosal, best female singer (Agathan).

Madhu Amabatt got the best cinematographer award for his work in ‘Gramam’ and ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’.

The Mannarakkayam Baby Memorial award for the best book on cinema has gone to T K Santhoshkumar’s ‘Kazhchakalile Rasatantrangal’, while the same tiltle in the English books category went to C Krishnan Unni’s ‘Sound in Moving Pictures’.

‘Abhra Kamanakalile Adya Purushan’, written by Bhanuprakash for Mathrubhumi Weekly was selected for the P K Pillai Award for the best cinema-related article.

The C K Soman award, instituted for the pioneers in film reporting will be presented to P Padmanabhan Nair.

Film Critics Association President Thekkinkad Joseph, Adv Poovappally Ramachandran Nair, V Sunderasan and Vattappara Ramachandran were present at the press meet.
