THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Bringing smiles to both 'M's of Malayalam film industry for yet another time, the 13th UjalaAsianet film awards were announced here on Saturday.

A comparatively lacklustre show by Mohanlal in 2010 made sure that he did not strike a hattrick with Asianet awards this year.

Mammootty has been selected for the best actor award for his performances in films Kuttisrank, Pranchiyettan and the Saint and his latest release Best Actor.

However, the other 'M' has been included in a new category named 'Asianet Golden Star Award'. The award went to none other than Mohanlal for his 2010 releases.

The latest declaration of Asianet awards makes the score 54 with Mohanlal winning five times and Mammootty four times.

Dileep has been chosen for the most popular actor award for his roles in Bodyguard', Pappi Appacha', Karyasthan and his Christmas release Merikkoru Kunjadu. Vijay won the award for the most popular Tamil actor.

Pranchiyettan and the Saint directed by Renjith has been selected as the best film while the best director award went to Lal for the film In Ghost House Inn. Nayantara won the best female actor award while Suraj Venjaramood was selected as the best comedian.

Ann Augustine has been selected as the best new face of the year (female) for her role in the film Elsamma enna aankutty. Shreya Goshal won the award for the best female singer for Agathan and Hariharan won the award for best male singer for Katha Thudarunnu.

The award for the best music director went to M G Sreekumar for the film Oru Naal Varum, while Murukan Kattakada was selected as the best lyricist for the same film. The other awardees include Venu (cinematography), Arunkumar (editing), Asif Ali (villain), Samvritha Sunil (character actress) and Innocent (best character actor). The awards will be presented at a function to be held in Kochi on January 9.
