Teasers are invitations for the viewers to watch movies. They can be catchy as well as entertaining, giving the spectator a hint on what the movie is all about. With their unique presentation, the teasers of Shajoon Karyal’s ‘Chettayees’ has become an instant hit among netizens. All the teasers show the five-member gang - the Chettayees - sitting in a room, into which a reporter and a cameraman enter. Then the reporter starts asking questions for which the Chettayees give funny answers. For instance, when the reporter asks them about the ban imposed on shavarma by the government, Biju Menon’s character Kichu says, “Thank God that they have not imposed a ban on Samyuktha Varma!”.

“When we thought about the promotional steps for the movie, we wanted to try something different for the teasers. It was a collective decision to go for 10-second teasers in an interview format. We are happy that the teasers have been widely accepted,” says Sachi, who penned the script for ‘Chettayees’.

Sachi’s second solo script after ‘Run Babby Run’, will narrate the tale of five friends, who come together for celebrating New Year. “The story is happening in a time span of two days - from December 30 till January 1,” the scenarist says.

Advocate John Pallan, percussionist Kichu, actor Roopesh Krishna, chef Bava and Babu Mon appear on screen as Chettayees. The characters are portrayed by Lal, Biju Menon, Suresh Krishna, P Sukumar and Sunil Babu respectively. “The Chettayees are close friends who used to meet regularly. Though working in different fields, they share a special bond with each other. But that particular New Year, things turn upside down for the group,” says Sachi.

‘Chettayees’ is produced by Biju Menon, Sachi, Shajoon Karyal, Sukumar and Suresh Krishna under the banner of Thakkali Films. “When I told the thread of ‘Chettayees’ to Biju Menon, he  readily agreed to do the movie. Shajoon, Sukuvettan (Sukumar), Biju along with myself, decided to produce the movie,” adds Sachi.

Sachi’s last outing ‘Run Babby Run’ was a smash hit and had superstar Mohanlal in the lead. But switching to a  no-superstar movie from a biggie is not at all an extra burden, feels Sachi. “‘Chettayees’ has an entirely different storyline. Unlike ‘Run Babby Run’, which exploited the star power and actor in Mohanlal, here I was much more relaxed as a scriptwriter. Though there are tensed moments in ‘Chettayees’, it will be narrated with a pinch of humour, which I think the audience will enjoy,” he says.

Vinodh Illampally is the cameraman of the movie while Deepak Dev is scoring the music. ‘Chettayees’ will hit screens on Friday.
