At IFFK, folk art to take centrestage

A folk art festival will be held as part of the 21st International Film Festival that begins in the city from Friday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A folk art festival will be held as part of the 21st International Film Festival that begins in the city from Friday.

A programme organised as part of Vajra Keralam, the year-long celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the formation of the State, the festival will be held at Tagore Theatre every day at 7.30 pm from December 10 to 15. Giving the delegates a taste of Kerala’s rich folk tradition will be songs, tribal dances, mudiyettu, chavittu natakam, tholpavakoothu and aravana muttu. 


The festival is scheduled to begin with the performance of the band ‘Rasa’ at Tagore Theatre On December 10.  The band ‘Vayali,’ will present bamboo music on December 11. Kuttappan and his team will enthrall the audience with nadan pattu (folk song). Moithu Thiruvathra and team will perform Aravana Muttu (Arabana Muttu) on December 12. V N Narayanakuruppu Assan and his group will perform mudiyettu, on December 13. A chavittu natakam will be staged on December 14. 


Meanwhile, delegate passes for the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will be distributed from Tuesday. Cultural Affairs Minister A K Balan will inaugurate the pass distribution at Tagore theatre at 11 am.
