THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Randuper ( Two Persons ) and Aedan ( Garden of Desire) are the two Malayalam films slated to compete in the international competition category of IFFK. The former directed by Prem Sankar, tells the sensitive topic of gender politics and relationships. The stories narrated in Aedan attempt a microscopic examination of the human mind.
A cross-section is revealed which is a whirlwind of emotions – lust, passion, envy and rage. The two films were selected for inclusion in the competition section by a jury headed by cameraman Ramachandra Babu and comprising Chelavoor Venu, MG Sasi, Judajith Sarcar and Veena Hariharan.
The competition section portrays the life and aspirations of people from different walks of life. The section consists of 14 movies, four of which are Indian.In the Malayalam Cinema Today category, seven films including Take Off which brought home the silver peacock for actor Parvathy ( the first lead actress to win the award at the recently concluded IFFI in Goa), will also be screened.
Other films are Angamali Diaries, Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, Maravi, Take Off, Karutha Joodhan, Athisayangalude Venal and Sreekrishnan KP- directed Nayinte Hridayam ( Heart of a Dog ), which will be screened for the first time.
Empowerment for women in cinema
IFFK will host a two-day workshop for women filmmakers and technicians. The workshop is aimed at facilitating greater participation of women filmmaking talent. It will invite over 20 participants who would be put through the workshop aimed at addressing funding opportunities, film festival road maps, film packaging in addition to master classes by industry veterans. The programme will take place during the course of the festival on December 12 and 13.
