KOCHI: The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) had never mistreated Thilakan, said actor Madhu. He was speaking after accepting the award instituted by the Thilakan Foundation at Edappally here on Sunday.

“Thilakan was an exceptionally talented artist. He was never mistreated by the AMMA. Even after the so-called ban, he acted in several movies, which shows AMMA never tried to oppress him,” said Madhu. He said AMMA had asked Thilakan to take charge of the film Twenty:20 as a mark of respect. “Even two years after the project was announced, Thilakan did not take up the project. Then, Dileep came forward and helped the project,” he said.

Madhu said he had taken advance from Vinayan for a movie directed by the latter, without knowing about the ‘ban’ against him. “After a few days, some persons visited my house and informed me about the ban. There were no AMMA members among them. When I told Vinayan about the incident, he understood my problem and dropped me from the  project. Later, I realised it was a mistake on my part to withdraw from the project. So, I called Vinayan and expressed my willingness to join the project,” he said.
