KOCHI: They say love is blind. They say love sees no fault. That love is innocent. But, what if the lovers can’t hear what they say. What if the lovers are oblivious to what the world says. What if the lovers need a whole another medium to let their thoughts touch each other. A medium that the world does not understand.

Set on this thread, Kottayam-native Prasanth Pushkaran has created a musical short film Rare Birds, which was released on YouTube last week. “I happened to see a programme on a popular TV channel featuring two people who found each other through social media. The story was developed based on this. For the making of the film, my friends and I had to spend money from our own pockets.” says Prasanth.

In the 15-minute long short film, an artist who is speech-impaired misplaces his nearly complete artwork at a restaurant. He looks for it in vain. During the same time, he meets a girl through social media. They correspond and decide to meet at the beach. What follows is the crux of the story.

What needs to be highlighted about the short film is the original song in it. Written by Dijin K Devassy, the song was sung by Gokul Gopinath. While the screenplay was done jointly by Sona Siby and Jithu KK, Vineeth V Mohan handled the camera. Maneesh Murali, Lisha John, Vishnu, Vibin Vikram, Harish Madhu, Anjana Vincent and Asrit Sidharth donned the central characters in the short film.

The short film was shot in March. “The shooting was completed in four days,” says Prasanth. “The post-production began almost immediately and continued till May.” Rare Birds, released by Muzik247 on YouTube on July 18, has already garnered more than 12,000 views.
