The phenomenal success of the Malayalam movie Drishyam, which featured Mohanlal and Meena, has seemed to have spurred an interest in the film being remade in in both Telugu and Tamil. Producers of Malini 22 Palayamkottai, Rajkumar Theatres, have announced that their second Telugu venture would be a remake of Drishyam, a movie which remains unnamed as of yet.

Produced as a joint venture with Suresh Productions, sources said that the movie is said to star Telugu actor Venkatesh in the lead. The female lead hasn’t been finalised yet. The movie will be directed by yesteryear actor Sripriya, who also directed the Tamil and Telugu version of Malini 22 Palayamkottai – again a remake of the Malayalam 22 Female Kottayam.

Closer home on the Tamil front, sources said that Anniyan star Vikram had expressed an interest in playing Mohanlal’s character from the movie, with Suresh Balajee, who owns the Tamil remake rights of the film, approaching the actor for the role. Vikram is said to have been blown away by the Jeethu Joseph movie.

With Shankar’s Ai in the last stages of production, the question remains if the actor will be interested in playing father to an 18-year-old in the film. But as Vikram is known to have played unconventional roles in the past, this might just be another feather in the actor’s cap.
