Cast- Amal, Saranya Mohan, Pandiaraj, Kanja karuppu, Vishwanth

Directed, scripted and produced by debutant P G Surendran, the film is about a youngster’s determination to fight against odds and gain his love. Endowed with chocolate-boy looks, Amal makes a promising debut. Paired with him is Saranya Mohan, essaying the pert and playful role of Ramya effortlessly. But with its old plotting, and a TV serial- style narrative, the rom-com barely makes an impression.

The early scenes depict college student Amal’s flirting with a girl he’s infatuated with. Even a dream song is included here, with the director trying to make it look erotic.

Amal (Amal) shares an easy camaraderie with Ramya (Saranya), but an altercation with Kumaran, Ramya’s cousin and intended groom, results in Amal being thrashed. Vowing revenge, Amal challenges he would marry Ramya.

There are too many characters, with none leaving a mark. The director probably wanted to highlight women-power, but that hardly registers. Kolakalam hardly has anything to entice a viewer.
