Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavanigalum: A romantic comedy

Chimbudevan’s next Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavanigalum will star Arulnidhi, Ashrita Shetty and Bindhu Madhavi.

Director Chimbudevan has been a busy man, these last few months. The director, who revels in comedies, is back with his favourite genre in Oru Kanniyum Moonu Kalavanigalum (OKMK).  The film stars Arulnidhi, who has been given a new look and makeover for this movie. In a chat with CE, Chimbudevan reveals more.

“Comedy is my forte and this time I have made a rom-com,” says Chimbudevan. “OKMK is about a group of friends and how they overcome a particular problem that confronts them. Though my previous films had a strong fantasy base, this one has a contemporary feel. But it will be as entertaining as the others.” The film stars Arulnidhi, Ashrita Shetty, Bindu Madhavi, Bhagwathy and Sabesh Karthi in the lead. A line-up of actors Jayaprakash, M S Bhasker, Nasser, Manobala and Delhi Ganesh are  also part of the cast. The music comprises three tracks and is composed by Moodar Koodam- fame composer Sankaran Natarajan, while S R Kathir handles the camera. Raja Mohammed is the editor.

Throwing more light on the film, Chimbudevan says, “This film came about quite suddenly. There was a delay in my project with Dhanush and in the meantime, I narrated this idea to Pandiraj. He suggested that Arulnidhi would be apt for the role. When I narrated the story to Arulnidhi, he liked it and said his home banner Mohana Movies would be happy to produce it. It all happened quite fast and within 30 days we went for the shoot and soon completed the film also.” Being a consummate cartoonist, Chimbudevan had a complete story board in place, enabling an efficient and quick shoot.

He is all praise for his hero, who has been given a new look, “You will see different looks of Arulnidhi, with Tom Cruise-type side burns and a clean shaven look. He has a unique face that is easy to mould and suits this character. He’s a casual and natural actor like Gemini Ganesan. This film  will take him to a different level in his career.” The film has been shot in Chennai, in and around Saidapet, Anna Nagar, Besant Nagar and  Royapuram. While Manobala plays a tea  shop owner, M S Bhasker is a watchman and Jayaprakash a doctor. V S Raghavan plays an important role.

Both female leads, Ashrita and Bindu, have been part of important chase and action scenes, choreographed by Dilip Subbrayan.
