I’m blessed to have worked with stars: Varsha Ashwathi

Actor Varsha Ashwathi might not have been  seen on screen after her debut in Peraanmai (2008) along with Dhaniska, Vasundra and Liyasree, but she hopes her upcoming projects will create a strong foothold for her in Tamil film industry in the years to come. While she plays an IPS officer in Neer Paravai, she appears in a pivotal role in director Manivannan’s Amaidhipadai 2, in which she shares screen space with actor Sathyaraj. “I never thought I would become an actor and after Peraanmai I didn’t know how to take it forward. I took my time watching how things worked and now I’m back,” smiles Varsha.  The actor said she didn’t know who director Seenu Ramasamy was until she met him at the Chennai International Film Festival last year.

“He asked me to come to his office and offered the cop role to me, saying it would suit me. He had a clear understanding of who should play what in Neer Paravai,” she says.

Varsha’s role spends most of the time with Nandita Das in the film and she says she is blessed to have worked with actors like her. “Not just in Neer Paravai, in Amaidhipadai 2 too, I work with personalities like Sathyaraj and Manivannan, which is a great thing at the beginning stage of my career,” she gushes. Even though Amaidhipadai is about taking revenge, Varsha says, her character will be portrayed in a positive note.

Varsha, who is part of a Malayalam flick titled Don’t Worry Be Happy, has worked in three more projects in Tamil which are in various stages of production.
