He rose to fame eating parottas in Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu (VKK) and even earned the prefix of Parotta Soori. Now one of the fastest rising comedians of K Town, Soori has got a lot more on his plate than just parottas. With nine films on hand, he is one busy actor, sharing the screen with the top heros of Kollywood.
In Ezhil’s Desingu Raja, which is releasing this month, Soori plays a lovestruck character and has donned a different get up with a long mustache and colourful costumes, “My character has a distinct individuality and since Vimal and I have worked together before, our timing was perfect.”
His upcoming releases include Varutha Padadha Valibar Sangam with Sivakarthikeyan, “The film is so comical, that we couldn’t control our laughter between takes. The highlight was acting with Sathyaraj. I never imagined I would one day get to act with him!”
Naiyyandi, directed by Sargunam is special as he teams up with National Award winning Dhanush for the first time. “Just ten percent of the shooting is left. I can’t tell you much about my role though,” he grins. Soori is teaming up with Suseenthiran once again in Pandiya Naadu while he’s part of VKK hero Vishnu Vishal’s next untitled film as well.
Vijay Sethupathy, who has featured in some of Kollywood’s biggest hits recently, is someone Soori admires, “We are together in Idharka Thaan Aasai Pattaya Balakumara and Rummy. I am a fan of his natural acting. Actually, we have been close friends for more than 15 years now. In fact, he also had a role in VKK, which was my first hit.”
That’s not the only Vijay that Soori admires. After Velayudham, it is Jilla with Vijay that got has him excited. “The story is set in Madurai where I hail from. So shooting with Vijay in my native Pollachi will be a double bonus for me!”
Known for playing loud characters with long dialogues, he has however, played it differently in Samuthirakani’s Nimirindhu Nil, “After Naan Mahaan Alla, where I donned trousers and a tie, its my second time as a corporate guy. My acting is very subtle and character very unpredictable. This the most exciting phase of my career.”
