It is the trend among many directors in Kollywood these days to encourage their assistant directors to venture into independent projects.
Two of Venkat Prabhu’s assistants have recently turned directors, while Sasikumar’s assistant director Prabhakaran is presently directing his second film. Among the latest to join the bandwagon is Suseendran’s assistant G Karthigai Murugan who is directing his debut venture, Karisalpattiyum Gandhinagarum.
The film stars newbies Udhayakumar and Rithamika who have formerly been part of ads. The film has been shot by not one but two cinematographers, Anburaj and Gokul. Anal Arasu’s associate Anbarivu has choreographed the stunts.
The movie has been shot with a heavy dose of realism and is laced with humour, with oodles of romance and sentiment thrown in. Apparently, ordinary citizens who have never acted before have been featured in the movie, which has five songs composed by A S Anbuselvan.
The special feature of one song is that the lyrics for the hero have been written by Tamizhamudhan while female lyricist A Isai has written the lyrics for the heroine. The entire shoot has been completed in 68 days.
