After receiving accolades for his performance as solo hero in Sundattam, looks like actor Irfan has been on a signing spree this year. The young hero is back with two films and in a chat with CE, reveals why he is excited about both.
The tall hero, known for his chocolate boy looks, is currently hitting the gym with a vengeance, to sculpt his body for Ru, his next film. “It’s directed by Saran’s associate, Armugam and is a complete action thriller. I play an aspiring actor. The film has no heroine. The role required a very fit body. I have some very challenging fight sequences and so I have been building my body,” reveals Irfan. Four new actors play villains, while Uma Padmanabhan plays his mom. TV personality Adhavan takes up the comedy track.
Irfan has completed two schedules and is gearing up for the next one. ‘’There is a very risky stunt sequence coming up in the third schedule. We have been shooting in Bangalore, Karaikudi and Gujarat. The unit will proceed to several other locations in India, since the story demands it,” says Irfan.
Irfan has just completed shooting for his other film, Ethir Veechu, directed by K Guna. The film has been shot completely in Malaysia by producers Razeek and Shahul. The heroine is Rasna and the movie has a big star cast which includes Nalini, playing Irfan’s mom, Vyapuri, Singamuthu, Chinni Jayanth and others. The film is based on the international game of Futsal and for Irfan, it’s yet another sports based film. He says, “It’s true, sports has been a recurring presence in my films. In Pattalam, I raced 100 mts, in Sundattam it was carrom and now its futsal!” So why a sports based film soon after Sundattam? “It was totally unplanned. I liked the script and had time between the schedules of Ru. So I took it up.”
Talking about the sport he says, “It’s similar to football but is an indoor game, with a smaller ball and only five members in each team. I was trained in the game before the shoot in Malaysia. Since I’ve been a basketball and cricket player, both of which use hands, Futsal took time to learn as I had to use my legs.”
The music is by Rajamani and the film is to be released internationally with Goal as its title abroad.
