Actor Vijay Sethapathy’s histrionic skills have already led to a huge fan base and rising expectations in a short time. But the actor was not content with just donning the greasepaint. He had decided to turn producer and launched Sangu Devan, but the project was later dropped.

Now, Vijay is launching his first movie under his banner Vijay Sethupathy Productions, titled Aarange Mittai. It will be be co-produced by Common Man Productions. But the highlight of this project is the director – renowned international Filmmaker ciematographer, screenwriter and producer Biju Viswanath.

The award winning filmmaker has made nine American films and several short films in Italian, Swahili, Irish, Japanese and Hindi. After spending several years in the US, Biju now shuttles between Kerala and Florence, Italy, where his  production house is based.

Winner of several international film awards, his film Déja Vu was the only other Indian film, apart from Lagaan, to make it to the Locarno Film Festival. Among his films is Marathon, which is based on Pulitzer Prize winning American poet William Morris Meredith. He has also made one  film each in Malayalam and Sinhala.

“I met Vijay just before Pizza. I was impressed by his passion for films and his script knowledge. We planned  a movie together, but that didn’t happen due to my commitments abroad. In the meantime, he became a big name but to my amazement, retained the same simplicity. One day I asked his opinion on the script of Aarange Mittai. He liked it a lot and offered to produce it,” Biju says simply.

Aarange Mittai will go on the floors on March 15, and will feature Soodhu Kavvum actor Ramesh along with Arumugham who played the bus driver in Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (PP).

Vijay Sethupathy says, “We will be shooting in a straight schedule of 35 days.  I know director Biju for the past few years and was very impressed by his script. The film is a light hearted, slice of life.”

Jayaprakash, the Pannaiyar in PP, will don the pivotal role of an old man. Aswitha from Hyderabad  is the heroine. Vijay  has written the dialogues of the film.

Speaking about the dialogues Biju says, “I got it translated from the original English into Tamil.  But when Vijay was reading aloud and improvising,  his  version of the dialogues was so convincing and realistic, that I decided to retain the dialogues that he gave.”

Music for Aarange Mittai is by Justin Prabakaran, while Biju himself is doing the cinematography.
