Cinematographer and director Vijay Milton’s second movie is a coming-of-age story of four aimless teenagers. “Everybody needs to have an identity. It is a dilemma and a discovery that everyone encounters at a particular point,” says Vijay, who debuted as a director with Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu. He explains, “The film explores the journey of four boys, who suddenly stumble upon the need to have their own identity, and their  struggles to keep their identities intact, after battling many odds.”

Goli-Soda.jpgThe cast includes actors of Pasanga fame like Kishore, Sree Raam, Pandi and Murugesh. The director of the film attributes the cast selection to filmmaker Pandiraj. “When I was discussing the project, he suggested the cast of Pasanga. I was looking for someone in the age 15 group and the actors were perfect for the roles. I was keen on this age because it is at this time that identity and related topics seem a little obscure and unimportant. Usually it is at 18 that people begin thinking about such things seriously. The boys could pull it off very naturally,” the director adds.

About the title, the director says that it summarises the film’s story quite succinctly. “Goli soda is a colourless liquid and looks plain when it is in a bottle. However, it can also erupt when handled roughly. It explains the plot that surrounds the lives of a few nondescript characters and the change they get to experience,” he says.

The music for the film that will hit screens on January 24 is by S N Arunagiri and the lyrics are by Mani Amudhavan, Priyan and Gaana Bala. The director is already shooting for Balaji Sakthivel’s project and Suseenthiran’s film.
