Capture.JPGIn this age of multi-tasking, music director K is the next to join the bandwagon. Not only is he taking a leap into acting,  but also is making an entry into Bollywood, apart from  composing music for four Tamil films.  City Express caught up with him to discover more.

After giving music for four Tamil and one hit Malayalam movie (Annaiyum Rasoolum), K, who is the find of Mysskin, is now turning hero. But it happened quite inadvertently, “Vadivelu, the debut director of Kollapadam is a good friend. One day he offered me a role as one of the four leads in a film about cinema. Each actor is reprising his real-life occupation on screen and I play a music director. I was supposed to play Y G Mahendra’s son in Yuddham Sei, but because I wanted to establish myself as a music director, I turned down the role. This time, though I was a bit scared,  I decided to give acting a try.”

Vadivelu held a workshop  during pre-production, when a short version was  shot and edited along with music to acclimatise the actors to their new roles. K has given the music and danced for the first time on screen. “Facing the camera leads you into a completely different world. I’ve always been around film sets earlier. But being before the camera changes your perspective completely! I’ve realised how hellish and demanding an actor’s life can be!” says K, who lost six kilos for the shoot.

In the  meantime, he’s spreading his wings to Bollywood as well, with the Hindi remake of Pizza. He says, “Bejoy Nambiar is the producer, Akshay Akkineni is the director and Akshay Oberoi is the hero. 99 per cent  of the shoot is over.  Five different composers are doing five songs. I’m doing one song, along with theme track and background score.”

What was the biggest challenge he faced? “Scaring people through music is tough. But the excellent work of the visuals and edit departments made it easier,” he says. In Tamil, K is composing music for Mahabalipuram, 49 O and Kaadu apart from Kallapadam. So will he continue acting and composing music in Bollywood ?“If some director is patient enough to make me act, then why not! As a music director, Kollywood is home but I want to work in Bollywood too, since the reach is wider,” he signs off.
