Angana Walks the Road to Success

Actress believes hard work and destiny have to be in sync in order to achieve success

She’s tall, slim, pretty and a bundle of talent, as her performance-driven roles have proved in the recent past. We are talking about Angana Roy, the Bengali beauty, who was raised in Bangalore and is determined to carve a niche for herself in Tamil cinema. With Vathikuchi and Ragalapuram under her belt, she is back with three films in 2014. While Kapadam and Megha have recently released, Mahabalipuram will hit the screens next. “In each film, I have done a different type of role. I don’t mind experimenting and going de-glam if I have to. What’s important to me, is the character,” she stresses.

To prove her point, she recalls her role in Megha, “I played a simple girl, mostly seen in a nurse's costume through the film. In Kapadam, I went against the clichéd good girl characteristics usually attributed to heroines and played a girl with negative shades, dissatisfied with her fiancée.” So what’s in store in Mahabalipuram next?

“I play Sangeetha, a newly married, office going girl, hailing from the Mahabalipuram area. I’m paired with Vetri. The story revolves around five boys and two girls. The twist in the tale comes because of my character,” is all she reveals.

Shooting with a young team in the scenic town of Mahabalipuram, Angana had a blast. “I love beaches and like all Bengalis, I love seafood! Whenever I used to visit Chennai for ad shoots, I would make it a point to drive to Moonrakers and Fisherman’s Cove on the ECR, for the seafood. So now, during the shoot of my film, when we were actually staying in Mahabs, I could visit Moonrakers with the team whenever we had time after shoot!” she gushes.

Shooting with a young team of so many co-stars like Vinayak, Vetri, Karuna, Ramesh, Karthik and Virthika had many advantages. “The boys somehow discovered that I could sing and between shots they made me sing my favourite Tamil numbers. For Vinayak’s birthday, many of his friends came down from Chennai and we all had a blast. With Virthika I bonded over shopping and travel anecdotes,” says Angana.

The svelte beauty is now willing to experiment with more glamorous roles in the future. When asked about her goals she says, “When both hard work and destiny are perfectly synchronised, success comes your way in cinema. So I want to select good scripts and keep working with perseverance till that happens.”  Meanwhile Sandalwood can also expect to see more of this Bong beauty as she  is currently shooting Cobra with Duniya Vijay.
