Rahman in a 21-Year-Old's Crime-Thriller Directorial

Rahman, who has done several impressive Tamil films, is back in news now. The actor is playing the lead in a Tamil film, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru. Interestingly, this film is being directed by 21-year-old Karthik Naren, a mechanical engineer, who dropped out of college to pursue a career in the film industry.

Sources close to the film unit say that Rahman plays a police inspector who suffers an injury and therefore retires halfway. However, after five years, he chooses to pursue an investigation in a case he had left unresolved. Another highlight of this crime-thriller is that it does not have any songs.

Says a source, “The story is set in Coimbatore but the  shooting has been going on in different locations including Chennai, Coimbatore and Ooty. A vast chunk of the film has been shot in just 28 days.”

The source also informs that the director needed someone in the age group of 50 years to play this role in this film. “That’s why he chose Rahman. He was a little anxious as to how he, a 21-year-old, could direct such a gifted and experienced artiste such as Rahman. But the actor was so cool about it and took away his fears.”

The director concurs and adds, “Rahman sir gave me absolute freedom and I also learnt a lot from him.”
