Look Who's Talking: Apparition in Your Mobile!

From making short films to a full-length feature film for the first time, director Baskar is all set for the release of Hello, Naan Pei Pesuraen — a horror-comedy that has already created a buzz in the industry

The fact that his film’s title has caught the attention of film buffs has delighed Baskar, who is making his debut as a director in the Tamil film industry with Hello, Naan Pei Pesuraen.

“It’s a horror-comedy,” says the director, who is visibly pleased with the way his film has taken shape. “The story is about a ghost that enters a mobile,” he discloses, unlike others in the industry, who are hesitant to give out details of the plot of their films.

The movie has a big star cast which includes Vaibhav, Oviya, Aishwarya Rajesh, Karunakaran, VTV Ganesh and Singam Puli. Giving details about the characters they play in the film, Baskar says, “Vaibhav plays a jobless youngster in the film while Aishwarya plays a telemarketer. Oviya has just finished her college and is on the lookout for a job while Karunakaran plays the hero’s friend. How they all get affected by the ghost is rest of the story.”

Even before the release of his first film, Baskar has become popular, thanks to his hilarious short films. Sources in the industry say that his short films such as Thirudargal Jakiradhai, Jiguna and Medical Miracle were hilarious and immensely popular.

“I was a marketing professional while I was making short films. I like making humorous short films, which is something I did while participating in the TV show Naalaya Iyakkunar, in which director Sundar C was one of the judges. However, I quit my job and took to making short films full time during this contest. Medical Miracle was a big hit and it won several awards in the last season of Naalaya Iyakkunar,” says Baskar.

Stating that he pitched the story of Hello Naan Pei Pesuraen to Sundar C for his opinion, Baskar says, “I told Sundar sir only the gist and he was very impressed. He asked me to develop the script completely and said he would produce it himself. We finished the script in March, and in April, we began shooting the film.”

He adds that Sundar C obliged to every single demand he had. “For instance, I wanted certain actors for certain roles and they have ensured that these actors were on board,” he shares. “Now, the film is almost done. Only re-recording and CG work is left. We are likely to finish that too shortly. We are planning to release the film either by the end of this month or by the beginning of next month.”
