Suriya on Monday made an emotional appeal to students, urging them not to wilt under the pressure of exams. He was talking at the audio launch of his upcoming film 24, which has been directed by Vikram K Kumar and features Samantha and Nithya Menon as the female leads.

Citing recent incidents of students committing suicides due to exam pressure, Suriya said that he was really disturbed by them. “Students must not take any rash decisions under exam pressure.Please be patient,” he advised.

The actor also came in for praise for his statement on the need for fans to encourage only good films. “Support only good films. Don’t encourage bad films, even if they are mine,” he said much to the delight of those present on the occasion.

Earlier, a minute of silence was observed at the audio launch to pay homage to those killed in the Kollam fire mishap.

The audio launch was special for music director A R Rahman as he celebrated his 24th year in the film industry by releasing the audio of 24.

Several stars including Karthi, Sivakumar and Nithya Menen were among those present on the occasion. Samantha, who plays one of the female leads in the film, could not make it to the audio launch as she was shooting for the bilingual Brahmotsavam in Hyderabad.

The actor took to Twitter to apologise for not being able to be present on the occasion.
